Question # 1 - (Repeated) 3 Marks

A man walks at 4 km/hr on plain, then at 3 km/hr uphill and then returns through the same road at 6 km/hr downhill and at 4 km/hr on the plain. It takes altogether 6 hours. So what distance he covered in one way?
Ans: 12 km
Solution: Let plain road = x km
And hill road = y km
x/4 + y/3 + y/6 + x/4 = 6
x/2 + y/2 = 6
x + y =12

There was a cycle race going on. 1/5th of the those in front of a person and 5/6th of those behind him gives the total number of participants. How many people took part in the race?
Approach:
Let the total number of participants be x
So, [(x-1)/5 + 5(x-1)/6] = x
Ans : 31
Question # 4 - (Repeated) 4 Marks

A person climbs down 7 steps when he sees his professor starting to climb from the bottom of the stairs. They pass each other and moving down he finds that he has 4 more steps to go when his prof reached the top. Considering prof takes 2 steps to one step of the person, calculate no. of steps.
Approach: total steps = x
Steps covered by person after Prof starts climbing from bottom = x - (7+4)
Bcoz already 7 steps over and 4 more steps remaining.
Steps covered by prof in the same time = x
Persons speed = s, Profs speed = 2s
x-(7+4)/s = x/2s.
x= 22 steps
Ans: 22 steps

A man while going from the car saw a flock of animals (pigs and ducks), and ask the farmar how many animals he have? Farmer answered there are 20 eyes and 86 feet. Can u tell the no. of each animal?
Let Pigs=x , ducks=y
ducks have 2 eyes and 2 feet and
pigs have 2 eyes and 4 feet
2x + 2y = 60
x+y=30
x=30-y ------------(1)
2x+4y = 86---------(2)
2*(30-y)+4y=86
60 - 2y + 4y=86
2y = 26
y=13 & x= 17v
Ans : 17 pigs and 13 ducks

A train going from newyork to washington and also from washington to newyork and train from first station leaves at every one hr and from other station train leaves at every 1 hr and half hr . Form both sides train takes 5hrs to complete the journey, you are in the trian fo newyork to wasihngton, How train will you see in path coming from washington to newyork?

Jhon and Ann have taken an examination. Ann told to his father that he had done 1/3 of questions wrong. Jhon had found 5 questions wrong.Also he said that the paper was quite tough and hence they both have answered only three quarter of questions. How much Ann done right answers??
Ann done right= x-1/3x= 2x/3
Jhon done right= x-5
second condition is that 3/4 * (2x) = x-5+2x/3
6x/4= 5x/3-5
20x-18x=5*12
2x=60
x=30
Ann done right= 2*30/3= 20
Ans: 20
